Food
For Thought
Recipe Contest
Real Meals from Local Fields
Here in the heartland, delicious, nutritious, locally grown food is available
year-round and for everyday enjoyment. That’s the theme of the sixth
annual Food For Thought Recipe Contest, a summer competition that this
year is focusing on foods that “extend the season.” Cooks
can choose from a tasty array of entry categories, including savory dishes,
sweets, “Daily Special” main courses, and food preserving
techniques like canning, freezing and drying. There’s also a kid’s
category for cooks under 18.
This year’s grand prize winner will receive a $500 culinary vacation
at the Washington Hotel and Cooking School in Door County, plus a membership
in Slow Food. Great prizes will also be awarded to the top two entries
in each category, including: gourmet dinners at Lombardino’s, Harvest,
Nadia’s, and Tuscany Mediterranean Grill; overnight getaways at
Arbor House and the Madison Concourse Hotel; gift certificates from Orange
Tree Imports, Kessenich’s, Elegant Foods, Stoughton’s All
Through the House and Wisconsinmade.com website.
Winning recipes will be announced and prizes awarded at the Food for Thought
Festival, an annual celebration of food and sustainability held in Madison
this fall on September 18th. The contest is organized by the Research,
Education, Action and Policy (REAP) Food Group and is funded by Madison
Area Technical College Culinary Arts Department, Willy Street Co-op, Natural
Ovens Bakery, Organic Valley, and SERRV International among others. Deadline
for entries is August 23rd. For entry forms, full contest details and
contest rules, or more information, visit www.
