Advertising in the Newsletter

The Reader is a monthly newsletter for the Owners and customers of the Williamson Street Grocery Cooperative. The Willy Street Co-op is a full-service natural foods grocery store with over 28,000 Owners. Note: Because we exist to serve all of our Owners, we decline to print political ads that promote a specific candidate; however, we will publish ads about a political issue.

Publication Information

The Willy Street Co-op Reader is the Co-op’s monthly newsletter. The Reader contains news and information about natural foods, organic and sustainable farming, cooperatives, the environment, health issues and Willy Street Co-op events.

It is mailed directly to over 28,000 Owners’ homes, picked-up by 2,000 or more in-store customers. The Reader arrives in Owners’ homes the first of each month. Most Owners live in the near-east side of Madison. We do, however, mail to all other areas of the city.

The Reader is one of the benefits of Willy Street Co-op Owners. We are dedicated to informing our Owners about nutrition, wellness, cooperative education and environmental issues throughout the year in an open forum.

Preparing Your Ad for Print

The Willy Street Co-op Readeris an 11 x 15 inch publication that is printed out-of-house. The ad rates listed apply to “camera-ready” artwork, meaning a one-sided black & white print on plain white office paper, or a digital ad submitted either on a disk or e-mailed as an attachment to under the following guidelines.

Required Specifications for Camera-Ready Ads

Print Ads
If you use a drawing or logo in your ad, submit it in black & white form, with at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) output or greater. Remember that extra fine detail might blur or fade when using a high speed press.

For photographs or shading, the ad must have a 65- or 85-line screen at 1200 dpi. Screens finer than 65- or 85-line may blur or cause fine details to fade.

Digital Ads
Digital ads must be created as an EPS document in Illustrator or as a pdf. If using Illustrator, all text and fonts must be turned into outlines. If sending a pdf, copies of all fonts and images must be embedded.

Production Services

We do not provide in-house ad design. Your ad must be submitted camera-ready.

Deadlines

Space Reservation
All display advertisers must reserve space by calling 608-251-0884 ext. 346 or e-mailing , by the 10th of the month preceding the issue in which the ad will appear. Ad space does, from time to time, sell out, so get your reservation in as early as possible. Camera-ready art work must be received by the 15th of the month for the next month’s issue. If these days falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the previous day becomes the deadline.

Be forewarned: If you have reserved space, or agreed to a contract, failure to provide advertising copy by the deadline will not relieve you from your financial responsibility. You will be billed as if the ad has run.

Payment Terms

All advertisers in the Reader will be billed on the first of the issue’s month. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice. The invoice will state what discounts and charges are applicable as per contract. All ads must be paid by check or money order.
