Action Alerts

Action Alerts on the Willy Street Grocery Co-op (WSGC) website are services to our owners/shoppers, providing them with the opportunity to effect outcomes of issues related to the Co-ops goals and mission, by either calling their state representatives or by attending related events.
Issues addressed in the WSGC Action Alerts will either be identified by the groups who are calling for action or by a designated person on staff at WSGC.The focus of a majority of these issues will be those affecting agriculture, the environment, eco-sustainability and/or the cooperative movement, and will be approved by the Cooperative Services Manager and/or the Director of Communications before posting.

Support the Authentic Trade Movement

  • Action Alert

It is time to reaffirm our commitment to the authentic Fair Trade movement that we have collectively built for 25 years in which small farmer co-operatives play a central and vital role. The corporate, plantation model put forth by TransFair/Fair Trade USA is not Fair Trade.

Please ask your friends and work colleagues to sign our public statement here. They may sign as organizations and/or individuals.

Please encourage your senators to recognize the International Year of Cooperatives

  • Action Alert

Dear Owners,

The year 2012 is the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC). The United Nations designated the International Year of Cooperatives in order to recognize the contribution cooperatives make to social and economic development. The theme of IYC—“Cooperative Enterprise Builds a Better World”—reflects this valuable contribution of cooperatives to the communities they serve.

The UN encourages all nations to recognize the IYC officially. In the United States Senate, a Resolution is being introduced that officially recognizes the International Year of Cooperatives. The Resolution is being introduced by Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Tim Johnson (D-SD).

Senators Cochran and Johnson have sent what is known as a “Dear Colleague” letter to members of the Senate asking for additional co-sponsors to the resolution. Having a large number of co-sponsors to this resolution will demonstrate the power of cooperative enterprise.

Ask your Senators to co-sponsor the resolution!

Please ask your Senators today to co- sponsor this resolution.
