Tips for shopping bulk

  1. Take as much or as little as you need.
Bulk is sold by the pound and weighed at the registers, much like produce is. We suggest buying only as much as you will use before you shop again—this ensures your food will always be as fresh as possible. If you want a large quantity of anything (more than about ten pounds), please ask a staff member for assistance.
  2. Know where to look.
Spices are organized alphabetically. Products in the bulk bins are organized first by whether or not they are organic—organic products will be higher on the shelf to prevent anything conventional from coming into contact with them. The bins are then organized by category—all beans together, all granolas, etc. Bulk teas are in the Health & Wellness section on the other side of the store.
  3. Most important: please write down the PLU (Price Look Up) number.
The PLU number is the four digit number found in the upper right corner of every bulk sign, it is how our registers (and our cashiers!) now how much to charge for a given product. The price per pound will be looked up by the register and is written here for your information only. Clipboards, scrap paper, and pencils can be found inside the store entrance. Paper, pencils, and twist ties or masking tape that you can write on are kept in the baskets throughout the bulk aisle.
Check here! (For a complete list of all our spices by their PLUs and a special PLU look up search using our Online Store.)
