Second store update - 9/12/08

  • Second Site

At this time, I don't have any news to report; we're still negotiating with the receiver appointed by the bank to oversee Metro Place, Phase II. I just wanted to let you know the status of the project. When there are any developments, I will be sure to announce them on our website, in the information station in the store and in our newsletter.

FYI: Siegel-Gallagher, the firm marketing the vacant lease space in Phase II of Metropolitan Place, is still distributing marketing materials via Loopnet that indicate that Willy St Co-Op will occupy space in the project. You may want to contact Tammi Schroeder, the agent with the lease listing, to ask her to correct or clarify the inclusion of Willy St Co-Op as a signed tenant. And Cliff Fischer hasn't been run out of town. Right now, he's building a 60+ unit apartment block on N Hamilton St.

By last spring we had regained focus on how to move forward and we are now prepared to reap the benefits of some of that work." Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!! I get it now!!!!

Painting Lipstick on a Pig I

Submitted by Brian Mink on Thu, 09/18/2008 - 8:34pm.

Painting Lipstick on a Pig

I read with some degree of outrage, outgoing Board Member Buck Rhyme's latest Willy Street Coop Reader article where he tries to detail the Board's herculean attempts to engage in due diligence in regard to making MPII decisions.

One can make nearly any scenario look good if you only cite positive attributes and qualities. Reading Buck's written word, members can be fooled into believing that the WSGC Board has always acted with the utmost due diligence in regard to the MPII disaster.

I'd argue that Buck has painted lipstick on a pig. The one astounding lack of due diligence he fails to cite is the fact that the Board did not verify the crucial build out fund for MPII actually existed in the form of cold hard cash. The Board signed an agreement on a promise from a developer whom is and was know to have a credibility problem.

Now that's not due diligence folks. When the Board owns the presses it's really easy to paint a very public picture of perfection. Scratch the surface and one can find that the Board made at least one fatal mistake that has and will cost the Coop dearly.

Hopefully, the new Board will be less interested in saving face and more interested in admitting culpability, learning from their mistakes and not using the newsletter to promote a cheerleading view of reality that lacks a clear understanding and recitation of their mistakes.

If Cliff Fischer is involved in any way watch out for shottie construction and being generally ripped off.
