Cooperative spirit

Q: I think it’s most unfortunate that the Mifflin St. Co-op closed recently after refusing our assistance only last year. They treated us like we were planning a hostile takeover, but if they had accepted our help, they would have still been here. I hope the cooperative spirit becomes reawakened, and the new grocery store downtown is the Willy St. (or even Mifflin St.) Co-op.

A: Thank you for your comment. While our offer was made in good faith, there is no doubt that it would have changed the structure of their business, and I can understand uneasiness about that. I too hope that a new grocery store opens in the area (downtown is one of the neighborhoods we’re exploring for opening a second store), and that it’s a cooperative! -Brendon Smith, Communications Manager

Snow storm troubles

Q: I came to shop today, no shallots, no red peppers, no spinach, no ginger, no salad greens that weren’t wilted, no cilantro­—so I left to do my shopping elsewhere.

A: Sorry! We had shorts on our deliveries. Some trucks didn’t make it in time for our weekend delivery due to the snow storm. -Andy Johnston, Produce Manager

Have salad? Will travel

Q: We love the Asian Noodle Salad. Could you please keep making it and/or let us know when it comes in? We live 25 miles away, but come in often.

Grapefruit juice

Q: Can you carry organic not-from-concentrate grapefruit juice? Organic Valley makes one and it’s great!

A: We carried this product when Organic Valley had it before the hurricanes hit their grapefruit farms. I am not sure that it is back, but a comparable substitute would be a good idea. Thanks. -Matt Hofstede, Grocery Supervisor

Bring back Camillo

Q: I took the “L’Allegra Tavolata” cooking class and enjoyed both the cooking and the chef. He was great. Hope he will have another class in the future.

Clean carts

Q: Please clean gunk out of carts with grey infant seats. They are very dirty. Thanks.

The motorized scooter

Q: It would be great if you were to provide an in-store shopping scooter. I have a friend who could walk to the door but cannot walk for shopping. She would love to be able to shop here. Thank you.

Outstanding salads

Q: The squash and beet hash on the salad bar yesterday was outstanding. Please make it again. The bulgur, zucchini and cheese casserole is also outstanding. I’d love to be able to eat it every day.

Pre-cooked brown rice

Q: It would be awesome if we could get frozen, pre-cooked brown rice. It comes in a box of three packages of rice which microwave in three minutes. There is excess packaging somewhat, but it’s really helpful when there’s no time to cook brown rice. Please consider carrying it!

Pricey pizza

Q: Thanks for carrying the Amy’s vegan pizza. I appreciate your carrying new vegan products. However, the price $7.79 is way too much for me. I will never buy this. Can you start stocking the Tofutti brand vegan pizza instead? The price for that should be under $4 if Magic Mill is comparable. Thanks for your consideration!

Book swap

Q: Why not have a place—perhaps at the entrance—for members to recycle used books and magazines, particularly those related to the co-op’s values? Like they do at the public libraries. They could be left for free distribution or the Co-op could sell them for a little additional income.

A: Wow! I guess it’s time to readvertise our Take-a-Book-Leave-a-Book shelf here at the Co-op! Anyone wanting to recycle their books can, at any time, drop them off at Customer Service and we’ll put them on our book shelf (lending library) near the public restrooms in the Commons.
