Ripe bananas

Q: Sure miss ripe bananas.

A: We always request bananas with some color when purchasing, but we don’t always get what we want! Because banana supplies are extremely tight at the moment, distributors are shipping green product to keep customers supplied. -Andy Johnston, Produce Manager

Miso tasting

Q: I would love for the Co-op to host a miso tasting. Offering many varieties of miso, and suggestions for soups, dips, etc...

A: Thanks for your comment! I’ll share it with the others who plan the tastings and see when we can do it. Thanks again. -Brendon Smith, Communications Manager

Rishi tea

Q: How about Rishi teas?? The best in the county and the company is based in Milwaukee!! Should be easy. Thanks.

A: Good news! We do carry Rishi teas. They are in the bulk tea section, which is in aisle 6. Also, the Juice Bar serves Rishi tea. We have just added a few new teas to the selection. So, come in and check them out. Thanks for writing! -Matthew Fure, Assistant Wellness Manager

Home delivery service praise

Q: Just wanted to say thank you for your home delivery service. I’ve been using it almost weekly for 6 months or more, and (being semi-disabled) could scarcely get along without it. Becca and Kelly couldn’t be more helpful in taking my order, filling it and getting it to my apartment. This service-and those involved-is simply wonderful.

A: Thanks for the positive feedback. We absolutely agree! Becca and Kelly are exemplary employees and a 100% compatibility fit for this service! Thanks again! -Lynn Olson, Cooperative Services Manager

Paraben-free mascara

Q: May I suggest stocking Real Purity brand mascara? From my research, it appears to be a better value and is paraben-free. Thank you.

A: Hi. We are on the same wavelength! By the time you read this will have Suncoat mascara on the shelf—no parabens! I’ll look to see if I can get the brand you suggest as well. Thanks for writing! -Lisa Stag-Tout, Wellness Manager

More pound cake

Q: Please make more of the vanilla pound cake. My favorite! Also like the lemon poppy pound cake. I don’t like the marble nearly as much. Thanks!

A: Thanks for writing. Right now we are ordering as many pound cakes as the bakers can physically make. They are purchasing more pans and rearranging their schedules in the hopes we can make more pound cake and more of everything else too! -Dan Moore, Prepared Foods Manager

Salad bar pricing

Q: Hey! I was wondering about the salad bar... It’s a whole dollar more for lettuce from the salad bar than in the produce dept. If you are having only salad, this makes a big difference in price! Please explain.

A: Thanks for writing. We have a different price strategy than the Produce department. For example, our price usually doesn’t change throughout the year. Produce can change daily. Our price reflects the desire to average out costs throughout the year. If you want just salad you’re better off buying it from Produce at certain times of the year and from us at others. -Dan Moore, Prepared Foods Manager

Thanks for the treats

Q: Thanks for the Irish goodies before shopping! Yummy in our tummies! Only one dart-no vegetarian stew. I know it’s hard to find fake lamb out there—actually, I don’t think it’s invented or would taste good anyway. Thank you again for the free food! Erin go braugh!

A: We’re glad you liked it! Our next one will feature tasty brunch foods and will have more vegetarian options. It will be on Saturday, May 12th from 11:00am–2:00pm. -Brendon Smith, Communications Manager

Canvas bag options

Q: I would love to see more canvas bags. Those ones with the mesh material don’t hold things well. Also, local artist support! www.leftoverbags.com has a lot of cool options of a Madison artist.

A: Thanks. We enjoy supporting the women-owned sewing cooperative in Sri Lanka where we buy our solid canvas bags. Look for the canvas bags near the checkout. -Lynn Olson, Cooperative Services Manager

Workshop idea

Q: Please have a kombucha-making workshop.

A: Yes! I have an offer from someone who’s willing/wanting to and expect to see that coming soon! -Lynn Olson, Cooperative Services Manager

The next generation

Q: I don’t go into many stores but when I come here I see younger children helping their parents and having a good time doing it. And I see them having a good time playing 97% of the time. These considerations make it a pleasure for us old koots to come here.

A: Thanks! We love it too! -Lynn Olson, Cooperative Services Manager

Yerba mate gourds and bombillas

Q: I’m curious if your buyer has ever seen gourds and bombillas for drinking yerba mate tea in traditional way.

A: Yes, I have. In fact, we carry bombillas right next to the bulk tea section. Mate gourds are available to members by special order. We stopped carrying them because if not properly cared for they can dry out and crack. Stop by the Wellness desk and we can give you all the info on mate care and order one for your. Thank you. -Matthew Fure, Assistant Wellness Manager
