With sadness, I report that we have lost one of our fellow staff members. Cindy Jones was an integral part of our Finance team for over 13 years. Cindy took pride in paying vendors accurately and on-time and made a lot of friends in the process. Cindy managed Accounts Payable up until her retirement in October of last year. She will be missed, and our sympathies go out to her family and many friends during this difficult time. As a tribute to Cindy, staff will be participating, and we will be sponsoring “Team Cindy” in this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure, of which she was an avid supporter.
Security cameras at East
Security cameras are being installed at Willy East to improve staff and customer safety, and to help us deter or identify shoplifters. Cameras will primarily be used to review incidents, but are not intended to be used as a real-time monitoring system. The use of cameras at the West store has been extremely helpful in identifying shoplifters and to confirm incidents in and outside of the store. If you have any concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

All joking aside, we have been experiencing serious phone problems at Willy West and the Production Kitchen. If you are one of the callers that was inconvenienced or unexpectedly hung up on, I apologize profusely. Informatino Systems Manager James Phetteplace has been working with our provider to resolve this problem and I’ve just been informed that it has been fixed.
By now, those receiving a patronage refund have already been contacted and we want to remind folks again that those credits need to be redeemed by June 16th, 2013, at which time any unclaimed funds will become income and subject to taxation. So, we’d really like to pay you for your patronage.

State of the Co-op Remodel
We’ve received a lot of good input on the remodel of 1221 Williamson Street and it’s become apparent that the scope of the project has grown considerably as has the budget. We’ll be making some tough choices in the coming weeks to determine which of our priorities to pursue in the remodel. Some of the ideas brought to the table by Owners have been extremely helpful and are being incorporated where possible.
Would you like to CHIP?
Willy Street Co-op shoppers answered yes to that question in 2012 raising a record $221,403 for Community Shares of Wisconsin. Since 1978 when the CHIP program started, Co-op Owners have CHIP’d $1.3 million. Well done.
Community Reinvestment Fund
It’s that time of year again when the Co-op is accepting proposals for the Community Reinvestment Fund, and the deadline for applications is February 28th. If you are a regular shopper at Willy West and would like to join the grant determination committee and volunteer your time, we are looking for westside Owners to join us. If you’re interested, please call Lynn Olson at (608) 237-1217, also by the 28th for consideration.
Staff Party: Store Closing Early
We’ll be having our annual winter staff party this year on Sunday, March 3rd. Both stores will close at 7:30pm that night so staff can enjoy the party.
