Donation Request Guidelines

The primary purpose of the donations program at the Williamson Street Grocery Cooperative (WSGC) is to assist with funds available to organizations for special projects and fundraising efforts.

The Cooperative Services Assistant administers the donations budget and determines a yearly budget for the program, administering the fund accordingly. Most donations are given in the form of vouchers for food or food related items and are under $50.00.

Criteria

  • Donations will be made on a relative need basis. Groups with greater need will be given priority.
  • The Co-op will give priority support to fundraising, development and educational projects and events that have purposes consistent with WSGC goals.
  • Donations can only be given to organizations that are not for profit and an Exempt Status number must be included in your request.
  • Allocations will not be made to organizations that promote or take prejudiced action with respect to sex, national origin, pregnancy or childbirth, sexual orientation, color, creed, physical ability, religion, marital status, race, ancestry, and age (40 and older).

How To Request A Donation From The Willy Street Co-op

All donations must be in the form of a donation request letter on letterhead from your organization. The letter may be brief but must include:

  • A description of your organization, who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
  • A description of the event for which you are requesting the donation.
  • Evidence that your organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501 (c) (3).
  • Contact name and information for your organization.

It takes two to four weeks for us to process your donation request. Donation requests made less than two weeks prior to an event will not be considered. Remember, because of the large amount of donation requests that we receive it is impossible to fulfill every request. Thanks!
