Closing Early

Both Willy Street Co-op locations will be closing at 7:30pm on Monday May 28 for Memorial Day. We will resume our regular hours on the following day.

Downtown Update 1/21/08

Update on the Downtown store project (1/21/08)

During this work stoppage on the Downtown store, we will be posting updates on our website (www.willystreet.coop/Downtown_store) and at the store Information Station as there are developments. Please check either location for news.

To give some more background on the delay in construction, the landlord of the Downtown site agreed to a tenant improvement allowance (TIA) in the lease as incentive for our locating a retail store at that site. As defined in the lease, 10 days after the signing of the lease one of two things had to happen--1) the funds needed to be placed in escrow for the Co-op to draw from, or 2) letter of credit from the landlord's bank needed to be provided.

The Co-op did receive (within the 10-day period) a letter of credit from the landlord's bank giving us every reason to believe the funds would be available when we requested them.

It was the last week of 2007 that the first draw request was prepared for submittal, and it was then that we learned the funding was in doubt.

I do remain enthusiastic that the landlord will resolve this matter and we can get on with construction.
