Bulk yogurt

Q: Bulk yogurt? Since yoghurt containers are no longer recyclable, could the deli have bulk yoghurt and allow members to bring own containers (or package it in recyclable containers). Tired of so much plastic waste!

A: Thanks for the suggestion! We like the idea and are researching the logistics/health codes/supplies. If all goes well, we’ll bring it in. -Dan Moore, Prepared Foods Manager

Wonderful walnut burgers

Q: Please carry the walnut burgers from the Trempealeau Hotel (north of La Crosse). Awesome!

A: We are in the process of getting these delicious burgers. They should be on the shelf by the time you read this. Thanks for writing. -Matt Hofstede, Grocery Supervisor

Our compliments to the resident expert juicer

Q: Tim at the Juice Bar is awesome. I have tried out many of his helpful suggestions and adopted them as habits. They make a substantial difference in the quality of my life.

A: Thanks! I’ll definitely pass the kudos on to him! -Dan Moore, Prepared Foods Manager

Say it, don’t spray it

Q: Could someone/vendor maybe of H2O machine fix it so the water doesn’t splatter when it comes out? It’s messy & wasteful. I don’t remember this being a problem with previous machine. Thanks.

A: A service tech from Culligan came to take a look at our dispensers. He replaced a couple of fittings and is ordering replacement aerator screens for both dispensers. -Jim Jirous, Maintenance Coordinator

The razor’s edge

Q: I was surprised to see you guys stocking Gillette razors. Gillette has a longstanding history of animal cruelty. If you feel the need to stock a “standard” razor product, consider Schick, who does not do animal testing. Thanks!

A: Thanks for the comment. We’ve decided to stop carrying Gillette razors. Thanks again. -Matthew Fure, Assistant Wellness Manager

Three cheers for Justin

Q: Justin was very helpful in helping me pick a hand lotion. Alaffia Virgin Coconut Body Cream is amazing! Thank you, Justin.

A: Thanks for the feedback. I’ll pass it on to Justin. -Matthew Fure, Assistant Wellness Manager

Alternative sweeteners

Q: Please use agave or stevia sweetener in wheat-free treats.

A: Hi there. Currently stevia is not approved by the FDA as a food additive. I will certainly look into the cost of agave nectar as a sweetener. Thanks! -Josh Perkins, Kitchen Manager

When you care enough to say the very best

Q: Greeting card selection and quality is lousy. I know the Co-op isn’t Hallmark but I still feel we could do better!

A: Thanks for your comment and it is unfortunate that you feel that way about our selection. At this time we are a bit low on selection but we carry cards by local artists almost exclusively. The one exception is Red Oak and they are a local distributor. We sell a great deal of local cards! I am open to suggestions but would like to keep it to as many local artists as possible. Also, Schaffer’s on the corner has a wide selection of more common greeting cards. -Lisa Stag-Tout, Wellness Manager

Midwifery Today

Q: I would love to be able to purchase the magazine Midwifery Today here. Thanks!

A: OK! You got it. It’s a quarterly so we won’t get them in until September. I hope that this will be a popular magazine. -Lisa Stag-Tout, Wellness Manager

Yummy and satisfying

Q: The vegan potpie was very yummy and satisfying—my first tie ordering something from the hot food deli counter. Thanks!

A: Thanks for the great feedback! -Josh Perkins, Kitchen Manager

Temperature swings

Q: Brrr...When I walk in with my bare summer skin all hot from the heat I feel like I’ve walked into a fridge. Does it need to be sooo cooold...?

A: We do our best to keep the refrigeration in balance with the air conditioning but in the summertime the temperature of the store is more notably cool. The temperature is consistent all year long, though—just in the winter you’re all bundled up and don’t notice it as much. -Wynston Estis,
