Giving thanks
As we approach the New Year, we have plenty to celebrate and, in our case, good food plays a major role for all of us. We have been preparing for months to be ready with for your supplies. I personally look forward to my yearly ritual of preparing our family’s favorite baked goods and savory treats and seeing dear friends in the aisles while shopping.

Williamson Street Construction
Thank you for your patience and perseverance during Williamson Street’s reconstruction (staff, too!). Now that the barricades are gone, and traffic is returning to normal, I want to take a moment to send out a few thanks: GWABA for the “Willy LIVES” campaign to encourage shoppers to continue to come to the area to support area merchants. I want to thank the entire staff—this project affected nearly everyone in one form or another. I would like to offer special recognition to Wynston Estis for oversight of the operational aspects of not only the street reconstruction, but also the parking lot resurfacing. I salute Common Wealth Development for providing the Co-op with a staging area for deliveries when access to the parking lot was blocked, which supported smooth ongoing operations. Special thanks to the general contractor, R.G. Huston Company Inc., hired for the street reconstruction work; their workers were as accommodating as possible in meeting the needs of retail businesses under the circumstance. I’m especially impressed with them for completing the job earlier than planned. Nicely done.

Driveway update
To recap my notice my from last month, the Co-op has scheduled a meeting for November 7th beginning at 7:00pm at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center to listen to customers’ and neighbors’ experiences regarding the Jenifer Street driveway. If you are unable to offer your input at that meeting, we welcome input via our Jenifer Street driveway comment webpage or

Happy Anniversary
Willy West is celebrating its first anniversary this month! Wow, what a great year. We have learned some, we have taught some in our first year as a two-store operation. But, it functioned exactly in the way we planned it to during the last six months of construction, by offering Co-op Owners a second location to shop.

Now it’s time to begin the conversation about Willy East; it is showing its age. Look for opportunities to give your input in the coming months. This is the year to discuss our options; however, changes would scheduled no sooner than 2013.
