Spring brings budding flowers, baby birds, green leaves, and for the Grocery department, new product lines from local producers. We work hard to keep our selection fresh while strengthening the community by supporting local business. To that effect, here are some new items you don’t want to miss at Willy East.
The candy set has a new line of vegan confections out of Chicago called Chocolate Inspirations. Chocolate Inspirations makes excellent toffees and caramels and offers a line of delicious chocolates as well. Currently we only carry the vegan offerings, including English Toffee, Coffee Toffee, Cinnamon Toast Toffee, Peanut Butter Pillows (kind of like a crispy crunchity peanut buttery candy bar we grew up with), Fudge Sensation Bars (like a Three Musketeers™), and Caramel Cups with Chocolate, both with and without nuts. For more information, see chocolateinspirations.com. This is available at Willy East only.
Due to great Owner demand, we’ve added glass bottle milk by Castle Rock Organic Farms to our dairy section. Located near Osseo, Castle Rock’s cattle graze on pasture grass as the climate allows. Castle Rock Farms practices stewardship of the land: they believe in nurturing the future generations through quality and craftsmanship of every product they create. Their organic milk is Wisconsin Grade A, vat-pasteurized, and non-homogenized. Because it is not homogenized, the cream rises to the top, giving the bottle a cream-line. This cream-line is especially noticeable in the whole milk and delicious chocolate milk varieties. We also carry 2% and skim milk, and have recently added half & half and heavy cream. All are sold in a glass bottle, preserving their delicious taste and texture. There is a $2 deposit on each bottle, which can either be returned to you as cash or taken from your total sale amount by simply returning the empty, rinsed bottles to your cashier upon check out. If you happen to live in the Eau Claire-Chippewa Falls-Osseo area, old-style home delivery is even available! This is available at both Willy East and Willy West.
Earlier this year, we added Zimm’s Pizza to our frozen pizza set. Zimm’s is made in Edgerton, Wisconsin at Mario’s Pizza restaurant. The Co-op carries five 12” varieties: cheese, sausage, pepperoni, deluxe, feta gourmet. They range in price from $4.79–$6.99, but don’t let the price fool you—Zimm’s uses fresh ingredients and Wisconsin cheese. We brought in Zimm’s to be our more affordable pizza, but it still had to meet our standards of quality.
The Grocery Team’s favorite is the Feta. It’s comparable to higher-end pizzas in flavor and smells great in the oven. We’ve cooked one up to share during a meeting on several occasions. All Zimm’s Pizzas are thin-crust, but it’s a light, flaky crust, not dry and crackery like some frozen pizzas.
