On a beautiful September morning, 50 Co-op Owners boarded a tour bus and embarked on Willy Street Co-op’s annual Farm Tour. Our first stop was in Spring Green at Renaissance Farm’s production facility where we were greeted by the basil master himself, Mark Olson. He offered our group freshly baked cinnamon rolls, samples of an array of basil products, and as much fresh basil as we could use. After touring the production facility, we headed a few miles down the road to the beautiful field of basil.
From there we headed to Seven Seeds Farm where we met our gracious hosts for lunch catered by the Co-op on the farm. Greg and Lea Dolan Stroncek and Louise Peterson shared their family farm’s seven generations of history and answered our endless questions about their animal husbandry practices.
Our final destination led us to Mt. Horeb to meet Gene and Donna Woller of Gentle Breeze Honey. Gene shared his vast knowledge of beekeeping with us, and it proved to be a wonderful final stop on a truly enjoyable day.
Thank you to all of our very gracious hosts. We appreciate not only your hospitality but also your hard work to supply us with such high-quality, local, and clean foods.
