The Willy East Health and Wellness team has been working on ways to maximize the space available to us. We receive a constant stream of great product suggestions. Unfortunately, we have a limited amount of space and our shelves are already full. We’ve come up with some creative ideas to allow more space for new products and reduce the need to discontinue products in the process. Sadly, sometimes it is necessary to stop selling certain products. If you notice a product missing from our selection, please ask one of the team members about the possibility of placing a special order for the product. There is a good chance we’ll be able to find you what you need.
We have consolidated all of the lip balms at register six, the register at the end of the bulk aisle. There you will find a great selection of lip balms including the ever-popular Burt’s Bees, other brands and even some local options.
We’ve wanted to expand our selection of bulk herbs and teas for a while, but always get stumped by which products we should get rid of so this can happen. It seems that every product we carry is popular with different groups of Owners. We finally came up with a solution that admittedly seems so obvious we can’t believe we didn’t think of it earlier. There were a handful of bulk products for topical use on those shelves. We relocated those products to the bulk topical fixture, which houses bulk soap, hair care, moisturizes and bath salts. You can now also find bulk clays, roses and other topical use-only bulk products.
In order to be able to move the bulk products, we needed to find a new home for the empty bulk containers. Are you starting to see the domino effect? Well, it just so happened that we had a space available at the Wellness desk. As you are standing facing the bulk teas, look directly behind you, underneath the reading glasses display—voila, a selection of empty containers for all of your bulk needs. We also moved the tea canisters there, which gave us extra room to bring in a few new teas. Watch for the selection of empty bulk containers to expand as well. We are exploring several options, such as containers made in the U.S. and recycled glass options.
We decided it would be best to incorporate all of the Burt’s Bees products into that same aisle. Since reading the ingredient label is a very important part of selecting a product, we wanted to put all ofyour options in one place to make product comparisons more convenient. If you need help finding your favorite Burt’s Bees products, just ask and we’ll gladly show you its new home.
After moving all the Burt’s Bees products and lip balms, we had freed up the lighted display at the Wellness desk. We explored several suggestions and concluded that a seasonal space was the option that satisfied the most needs. We now have to ability to quickly expand our selection of seasonal items, allowing us to offer a better selection.
Since summer is rapidly approaching, our first seasonal display will focus on the outdoors. For the rest of the warm months, you will find an expanded selection of important summer items including sunscreen and bug repellents. We also offer some products for those not so pleasant parts of summer, including sunburn and poison ivy remedies.
We’ll be greatly expanding our sunscreen selection this year. Because we are a consumer co-op, one of our main goals is to offer products desired by our diverse group of Owners, including you! Sunscreens are a product with many variations and variables to consider when making a selection. For this reason, we have chosen to offer a full spectrum of options. Sunscreens come in two main forms—chemical and mineral. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing into your skin to block the sun’s rays. Mineral sunscreens coat the surface of the skin, reflecting the sun’s rays. If you would like more information about sunscreen, please check out our May 2009 article in the Reader on sunscreen (www.willystreet.coop/article/958). You can find an archive of past reader articles on our website. Just go to www.willystreet.coop and select “Newsletter” on the left side of the screen. There you will find the most recent Reader. Across the top of the screen you will find links to all of the Readers going back to 2004. Check it out, there’s A LOT of great information!
