Willy Street Reconstruction

The city is reconstructing Williamson Street and parts of Ingersoll beginning April 11th and lasting into the fall. One-hundred-year-old water and sewer mains will be replaced, new curb and gutters installed, ADA compliant sidewalks added, new storm water infiltration techniques will be tested, and an array of traffic calming strategies will be included. The project area is Blount Street to the Yahara River. One lane of inbound/westbound traffic will be open. Signs along East Washington will help direct traffic to Willy Street Co-op and the Willy Street business district. The 800-1000 blocks of Willy Street should be completed in time for the Willy Street Fair in September.

Last summer, a diverse and engaged group of residents, business owners, Greater Williamson Area Business Association members, Marquette Neighborhood Association Board and Traffic Committee members worked diligently with Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Forestry staff to transform this iconic street to be more pedestrian- and bike-friendly, with more canopy trees, better water infiltration, bike racks, art and benches.
