Baked Mozzarella Sticks

Classic appetizer, minus all the oil. These are great to have in the freezer - you can just bake them from frozen for a quick, cheesy treat.

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1/4 c flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 T grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 t dried parsley
  • 1/4 t dried basil
  • 1/8 t dried oregano
  • 1 t garlic powder

Baked Mozzarella Sticks Directions

  1. Set the mozzarella sticks on a plate and freeze until hard, about 30 minutes. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment. 
  2. Place the flour in a small bowl. Place the egg in a second bowl. In a separate bowl, stir together the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, oregano, and garlic powder. 
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  4. Dip each mozzarella stick in flour and shake off excess. Dip in the egg, followed by the herb-breadcrumb mixture. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet as you go. Transfer the baking sheet into the freezer, and freeze for at least 15 minutes. Bake for 8-10 minutes, flipping the mozzarella sticks over mid-way through the cooking time. Serve hot with marinara sauce or ranch dressing.
