The government shutdown means that November benefits for FoodShare members will likely be delayed. If SNAP funding is not restored by midnight on Monday (10/27), we will make two temporary changes to increase the amount of Double Dollars being distributed.
On Tuesday, 10/28, we will be increasing the maximum amount of Double Dollars earnable from $20, to $40. Additionally any amount over $5 spent will get one bonus Double Dollar voucher. The maximum total given out will increase to eight vouchers, which could be earned by spending $35 or more.
For example, a customer who spends $12 using FoodShare/QUEST would usually receive two $5 vouchers (one voucher for each $5 spent). On 10/28, unless SNAP funding has been restored, this customer will receive three $5 vouchers: the usual two plus an extra one. Up to 8 vouchers ($40 in Double Dollars) may be given on this Tuesday.
For ease of reference/planning, customers can refer to the table below to understand how the increased distribution will look:
AMOUNT SPENT ON FOODSHARE/QUEST | AMOUNT OF DOUBLE DOLLARS DISTRIBUTED |
$5 - $9.99 | $10 (2 vouchers) |
$10 - $14.99 | $15 (3 vouchers) |
$15 - $19.99 | $20 (4 vouchers) |
$20 - $24.99 | $25 (5 vouchers) |
$25 - $29.99 | $30 (6 vouchers) |
$30 - $34.99 | $35 (7 vouchers) |
$35+ | $40 (8 vouchers) |
We will continue to monitor the SNAP funding situation and make decisions about future Tuesday distributions accordingly, keeping in mind the limitations of the Double Dollars program. If you’d like to donate to Double Dollars, use one of the scan cards at the register (including at self-checkout), or ask a cashier.
Double Dollars vouchers can help purchase any fresh, frozen, or canned produce; and seeds/seedlings for growing edible plants. Vouchers may be used at any of our stores any day of the week from October through May as funds allow. The Co-op will give you one $5 Double Dollar voucher, up to $20, for every $5 you spend using FoodShare/QUEST for any FoodShare/QUEST eligible items.
